Work Rights

When you come to Australia on a Student Visa, you may apply for permission to work in Australia. You will only be able to apply for a student visa with work rights after you arrive in Australia and have commenced your program of study. The application charge for a student visa with permission to work is currently A$50.

Our associate - MARA registered consultant in Australia can assist you in the application process. Generally, you and your dependents are limited to 20 hours work per week on a casual basis while your course of study is in session. You may work full-time during holiday periods.

If you are studying a Subclass 574 Masters and Doctorate, your dependants have unlimited work rights after you have commenced your course in Australia.

From 1 November 2000, a student visa is subject to mandatory cancellation if a student works in excess of their entitlements. For more information

The money you may earn from working in Australia should only supplement your income and not be your only source of income. To gain a Student Visa you will need to shown that you already have enough money to support yourself and any dependants during your studies.

There is no guarantee of employment. Some institutions offer a job placement service.
If work is available you will need to obtain a tax file number from the Australian Government.

Our Australian office is able to assist or advise the students to find part time work in Australia.
